FACES OF UNCERTAINTY-YUSUF ARAKKAL

ART APPRECIATION

After walking past several pieces of art,one piece intensely outshone the rest and caught whatever was there of my attention. The canvas brought a vivid image to my eyes and it seemed to tell a story of its own.

This piece is a 'OIL ON CANVAS' done by Yusuf Arakkal. It is titled 'FACES OF UNCERTAINTY'.On observing the painting from all aspects, one can easily say that the painting is aptly named.

There are two people seen in the painting who are resting their heads on a blood splattered wall or rather what seems to have remained of a wall. They have a look of 'Uncertainty' on their innocent faces. They seem to be stranded victims in a war-stricken area.Amongst the two people in the painting there is one whose sex is not known is seen with his/her eyes shut as if in prayer or signifying that all hope is lost and he/she awaits death as it seems rather blissful in comparison to the current situation in his/her life.

The other person is a women. She seems to be the main element in this piece. She has an aura of despair about her. But,if we look closely into her eyes we see a tiny glint as though she has a flicker of hope within her that the nightmare will get over soon and everything will get back to the way it used to be.

The artist has done a remarkable job with regards to the dull set of colours with has been used in a perfect balance which helped the piece to send out the message the artist wishes to convey right at me.I was touched on beholding this piece and it managed to stir certain emotions from within me.It was also very relatable as we hear stories of people losing their near and dear ones to such insensitive activities like wars for no wrong of their's.
