WILD GEESE-MY ANALYSIS

In her poem "WILD GEESE",the poet Mary Oliver tries to say that the world would be so much better if people lived in tune with nature. The title evokes an image of freedom.

At the very begin when she says "You don't have to be good",we don't know if she means it from the moral goodness point of view or just being good at something particular. However, she manages to draw the attention of the reader when she says "You" as she seems to be talking to the reader in person. This helps to bring the poem across to the reader as rather stimulating and powerful.

Her intense usage of imagery immediately unfolds every scene in the reader's mind. She encourages humanity as a whole to be themselves without any pretence and to live life to the fullest without regretting any folly as we human beings are not perfect and it is completely normal to make a few mistakes. The presence of 'Wild Geese' in the poem seems to scream out the essence to freedom. She says that no matter how lonely you feel the world has something special and uniquet to offer so no one should ever lose heart at any point of time.

She concludes very artistically while personalising the world and saying that it is calling us and trying to infuse creativity within us using which we would be able to find our place in the world.
