The first time I read the poem it gave me a sense of belonging, of sufferance and freedom. You don't have to be good, you don't have to abide what's right by everyone, you can follow your heart because after all the heart wants what it wants. One shouldn't have to regret what they've done. No one should have to fall down on their knees and apologise for following that soft animal that beats within them.
This is freedom.
This is freedom.
Further on she says, 'Meanwhile the world goes on'
Nothing is constant, everything is changing and constantly evolving. The bright and sunny days don't last forever and neither do the sultry days drenched with sorrow. So, accept sorrow, accept happiness, accept every wrong that comes your way because it is what helps you evolve.
This is sufferance.
In conclusion she says, 'over and over announcing your place', no one needs to show their place in the world, we are the people, we matter, we belong. We all need to make our place in this world, there will be hardships in our way but it's on how we choose to overcome those hardships is what defines us. In the end we can all go home, to our sanctuary to the one place we will always belong.
This is belonging.
I'm reminded of 2 lines from the song 'Illusion and Dream' that reads:
"That the images they sell are Illusion and Dream
In other words dishonesty"
In other words dishonesty"
We can make the world what we want to make it and we shouldn't let anyone else paint a pretty picture of the world for us.
