"The tempter or the tempted, who sins the most?"
-William Shakespeare, Measure for Measure (1604)
Temptation takes us to places and situations we may never think of. Doesn't it? But who sins the most? The person who gets tempted or the person who tempts other people. I think both have sinned equally! In the Garden of Eden, both Adam & Eve as well as Satan were at fault. But only the tempted is blamed because they are shown as creatures with low self control.
These thoughts occurred to me when I looked at a painting at my visit to the National Gallery of Art. There were many pieces of art that caught my attention but this particular painting got me thinking. It was a painting of two apes who had genital parts of humans. This painting holds a symbolic value in the sense that when humans get into temptation they turn as wild as the apes and monkeys. And for a matter of fact it is true. Be it for monetary or sexual pleasure people go wild behind it. Yes for sexual pleasure too! We may not realise but having sex is one of the natural needs for man. But this need can turn crazy too where we loose our senses and this turns brutal! Yes I'm talking about men who rape women! It's inhuman for heaven sake! There are many ways to satisfy your sexual wants and raping women isn't one of them!
That was about sexual pleasures, and lets not start about monetary pleasures and temptations! The main reason for corruption these days is TEMPTATION for a better lifestyle. And we see the outcome of temptations everywhere and it is bad! Adam and Even had to face the wrath of god, also in fables like the ARABIAN NIGHTS, the fisherman caught more than 4 fishes from the pond and he was binded in the spell where he was punished all his life, the corrupt politicians and rapists. Whereas our personal temptations.. Be happy with what you have got.. with temptation you may loose everything that possess. So basically to sum it all up temptations turn us animals and there's a reason why we are made humans, who are the best creations of God with an intellect! So please use it!
