Magic

I would like to tell you frankly that, the world is filled with magic. I do realise how ridiculous it sounds for an 18 year old person to say so, but bear with me.

Being brought up by two CA's, one would expect their child to not be filled with silly romantic notions, but luckily for me I've always been a dreamer. I believe that you will never be happier than those times when you loved what you did or did what you loved. I do sound very idealistic, but I'll get there.

Just for a minute, forget all your scientific, logical thoughts and rehearsed expectations and explanations of the world. Do you know why childhood is such a special memory for most of us?
It was because we believed.

We never took anything for granted, everything was new. Unexplored. Nothing was a routine. When was the last time we spent hours starting at the moon? Or were fascinated by dust mites twirling in the sunlight? As we grow up, we take the world for granted. We find ourselves bores, and look for external  materialistic objects to fill the void within.

But know that when I say magic, I do not mean telekinesis or spells. I mean the everyday miracles, the process of how the caterpillar learns to fly, or how the smell of mud sings enticingly, as if it welcomes the rain. You could say that childish wonder is often mindless, but how many of us are not mind numbed, working on auto-pilot already?

Routines aren't bad, it gives us stability, it gives us rules, teaches us how to be organised, but at what point exactly did it take over our lives? And how many of us break free?

And when you look back, how many experiences did you really learn from? How many of those were intoxicated episodes when your inhibitions were down? And more importantly how many of those lessons were sought out by you as a need to quench your thirst for knowledge?

I believe that life is in the moments, the seconds you seize. That we get caught up in the silly nuances and fail to see the bigger picture. Do we even realise how each breath, each thought, action or choice is a step towards building the future? Either the one you create for yourself or one that someone else is creating. At this very second, we have thousands of choices. We can choose to let ourselves be enchanted by miracles around us, or we could walk straight to the destination, complaining about boredom.

I would like to tell you frankly that I believe in magic. That the journey so far and the journey ahead is filled to the brim with it. That since it is our choices that has led us to this very second we should do what we love, and enjoy what we're doing.

And if by any chance we are doing something we don't love, or pursuing something disinteresting, I believe that we have a choice to change. The power to take a different path that might lead us to a better place. And this power within us all is magic.
